fun in disney world rss icon What Is RSS?So you’re wondering what this RSS thing is all about?  Well, RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication.  It’s a technology that enables Blogs to automatically publish their content in a form that allows RSS Readers (AKA Feed Readers) to know whenever content is added or updated to a blog, in what’s called an RSS Feed.   Common Craft has put together a easy to understand video about what RSS is, so if you have a few moments take them and watch the video, its really helpful!

However, that’s a lot of technical mumbo jumbo though isn’t it?

Basically RSS works with a “Feed Reader”, it allows you to pull all the blogs you like to read into one common place, so you don’t have to go out to each blog you like every single day to check if there’s a new post from the author(s).  There are many popular Feed Readers such as Google, BlogLines, NewsGator, & Netvibes and they are all free to use.

RSS technology also makes it easy for the authors of blogs.  When they publish their blog posts, if their RSS feed also automatically updates.  No more having to go to several different places to update different versions of the blog, the RSS feed takes care of it all.

So if you find yourself bookmarking a whole bunch of websites that are actually blogs, you might want to look into getting a FeedReader account with one of the services mentioned above.  Once you have the account, look for the RSS Icon (like the one at the top of this page), or for “chicklets” that are specific for your FeedReader of choice and click on it.  Once you click on the icon or the chicklet, there are usually very easy to follow directions to get the blog’s feed into your FeedReader of choice.

And that’s it!  Simple, Easy and even a time saving technology! So go on, subscribe to FunInDisneyWorld.com today – just click that icon at the top of this page to get started! :)
